I have had chatted with them at least five times in the past 6 months. It is a failed company, and hopefully, Hewlett Packard, which bought it several weeks ago, will reinstate it to its old glorious days. The party I call answers the call but I do not know it because the phone shut down. The Mac OS X version of this updater does not download when one clicks on. I have had the Treo 680 for two years, it has been an awful experience.
When I mentioned this to the last person I chatted, he said there was a problem with it and I should try the Windows version. It just does not exist. Well, I tried the Windows version, it also failed to download.It is such a shame that a company (i.e., PALM) that pioneered PDAs and other wonderful things degenerated to a dud. Until I see the evidence of it, I will not touch another PALM product or recommend it to anyone but my enemies. Their pet solution to my problem is soft reset, which does not cure the problem. for nothing.
I use only its phone (with T-Mobile sim card) and PDA functions. There is no number to call, nor is there an e-mail address to write. The last few times I chatted they suggested updating phone software by downloading and installing Treo680_2_12_ROW_SDupdater.zip from the link [.]. Starting about a year ago, it began to stop dialing the numbers I call after two or three rings and shutting down. Then they suggest hard reset, again no change in phone's behavior, plus one spends all that time to hot sync, backup, etc. When it is on, it is not of any help.
I have to repeat each call several times before establishing connection.Now, the service. There is a chat but sometimes it is not in operation.
They provided NO software operating system enhancements so that you could Hot-Sync Palm Treo to the Palm Desktop located on your PC. PALM is too busy selling their products ( Treo-Pre and Treo-pic).So here's a company that says "UP YOURS", we have better things to do than supply support to our existing customer base. I've owned Palm Treo 680 for over three years and thought it was the greatest thing since slice bread. So since October, I believe NO ONE can update their desktop with information from their Treo 680. If someone can prove me wrong please send me an e-mail on were the fix can be found. I keep ALL my appointments and a complete contract list with phone numbers and addresses. THEN I converted to Windows 7 and important options just disappeared.

This phone is so underwelming I'd hesitate to recommend it as a paperweight. If you want a camera that doesn't look like crap, skip Palm. if you want a phone that isn't severely underpowered and sluggish, skip Palm. I've owned a half-dozen different Palm phones. However, this phone freezes up and is so profoundly incapable of performing basic functions, i can't recommend it for any purpose, even as a paperweight. If having your phone ring when someone calls is important to you, Palm is not the right choice. I have completely lost faith in this company's ability to not only make a "smart" phone, but a "phone" in general. If having a hands free headset that actually works at least 80% of the time is important, Palm is not the right hardware to use.
What can I say, I have been a faithful treo customer for years and I have put up with all kind of hardware problems before with every single unit I had. So i sent the phone back for repair (under warranty). Looking at the new Nokia E71 now. When I called them, kept getting their call center in India who don't know the status, but they just want me to wait another day.
All treos have mediocre reception, highly prone to dropped calls, self reboots; weird behaviors like rebooting when switching calls between active and call waiting and if the inactive caller hangs up, then the phone will reboot; yada yada.My latest gripe with my new tro 680 started when a known common problem hit me, i.e. Piss poor service. I have had treo 600, 650 and now 680. This has the best OS on the market and touch screen is awesome. after a long 10 day wait, I was given another refurbished unit which refused to charge when plugged in to the 680 charger. So waited another 10 days with no response.
and this is the thanks I get. Had the issue escalated and finally had to yell at them to let me talk to their US counter parts. Again I got the standard answer that they are "escalating" but do not have a current status. So overall I have been without my phone for almost 4 weeks now. The charger glow light came on, but it looked like its charging, but wasn't. Today I see in their online status that the status is marked shipped; though fedex doesn't recognize the tracking. Through all the treos over 5+ years, I can say besides the high usability, the hardware SUCKS.
Sadly, things were not any better their either. Palm wanted to charge me $25 for an advance exchange even though they sent me a bad unit. the phone jack circuit was loose, so no matter if I am using the phone jack or not, people can't hear me and I can't hear them. so here we go, sent this replacement unit back.
